Hundreds March To Remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

CORPUS CHRISTI -- More than four decades after his assassination, people marched in downtown Corpus Christi Monday to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and keep his dream alive.
Black, white and every color in between came together to remember the man who they said made it possible for them to be together.
"He [Dr. King] died for diversity. for the fact that he wanted to make it equal for everybody, a level playing field. and if you go inside the courthouse it's a level playing field because you have people from all faiths, all ethnicities, all backgrounds coming to say thank you doctor king," said Terry Mills, the president of the Corpus Christi chapter of the NAACP.
The march to celebrate the life of Dr. King started at the Nueces Couny courthouse and ended at the Church of the Good Shepherd where gospel singers serendaded the crowd with songs from the Civil Rights movement.
"We've come a long way by discrimination and we've come together, and by coming together there's still a lot to do, and we're nowhere near done," said marcher Quincy Mosley.
Those who marched say people of different races walking side-by-side is something Dr. King could only have imagined.
"His [Dr. King] heart would be leaping for joy for the fact that for back in the 60's when you had the birmingham bombings and the school riots and so forth and so on it's nothing like that today," said Mills.
They say Dr. King would be even more surprised that a country in which he fought for civil rights is now led by a black man.
"We have an African-American president, and he would be happy.. he would be satisfied. But there's much work to do, even though that we are at where we are now, there's much work to do."
To many here a walk like this is all it takes to carry on Dr. King's mission. "f we continue to come together we can make it, and keep the dream alive," said Quincy Mosley.
