Boxing: Triple Threat Results

CORPUS CHRISTI -- Eight fights took the ring Saturday night in the American Bank Center for Triple Threat, including a trio of championship bouts. Local lightweight Greg Gutierrez (5-1, 2 KOs) avenged his only loss with a unanimous decision win over Hector Garza (3-5, 2 KOs) in a 4-Round Lightweight pairing.
"I feel redeemed coming back. I couldn't offer anything else to my fans. I did my best (and I) hope they agree with me."
CCPOA product Julian Barboza continues to impress in his young career. The Welterweight TKOed Arturo Lopez in the 2nd round of their bout to improve his record at 2-0.
"I don't worry about the outcome. I put in work, and (I) throw hard and work hard. Nobody trains as hard as me, and the outcome is going to be good for me every time," said Barboza after making quick, and bloody, work of his opposition tonight.
One of the bigger surprises was the result of Alfonso Lopez decision in his Super Middleweight Bout (6-Rounds) against a much less experienced Justin Williams. Lopez fell once early, but felt he won the remaining rounds of the fight. The judges unanimously scored Williams the winner. That marks two fights in a row Lopez has lost at home in the American Bank Center, dropping his record to 22-3. It also makes his future uncertain.
"I don't know. I really don't know. Just go back to ...I can't say. I love boxing. I was doing a lot of things different in training. I was working my way down. I was feeling strong..that's something I don't even know if you come back from..."
