CORPUS CHRISTI - City crews and police have cleared roadblocks on Airline Road that kept motorists from travelling between South Padre Island Drive and McArdle Road all afternoon.

Before lunchtime an 18-wheeler delivering supplies to a nearby restaurant collided with a utility pole on Airline Road by Sunrise Mall.

The pole was left at a sharp angle with power lines dangling over the roadway.

Officers had a difficult time at keeping drivers from taking shortcuts through parking lots and side streets in an attempt to get back on Airline Road.

Due to the accident some 1,700 people were without power briefly in Corpus Christi.
